This zoo was founded by Mr. Pierre-Horace Boivin, who was very much influenced with the surrounding of this place.
Pierre-Horace Boivin was a great animal lover and as a young boy, he had half a dozen numbers of dogs, whom he had trained. Also, he cared for horses as well as a goat that was born with 3 legs only.
When he was elected as Mayor during 1939, he along with his few friends bought a little piece of land with the idea of creating a zoo. In the year 1953, his mission was accomplished.
Later the zoo was transferred to Granby Zoological Society, who started managing the zoo. In the year of 2013, the zoo celebrated 60th birthday.
The zoo has been awarded many times during the year 2014 to 2018 due to its various achievements.
The mission of this zoo is for creating awareness about global animal conservation. Though the zoo remains open all throughout the year, but tourist flow to this zoo is too much during the summer months.
There are nearly 750 people, who are engaged in this zoo and providing all the visitors of the zoo an entertaining as well as educational experiences.
This zoo is quite a huge area and therefore divided into 4 distinct “loops” as following, for all visitors so that they can maximize their time:
- Africa
- Asia
- South America
- Oceania loops.
In addition to that, there is a water park, animatronic dinosaur zoo, amusement park and practical and colourful central village, which is filled with various foods, souvenir boutiques, and other services.
In addition to that, this zoo also offers few fun packages like Zoo at night, which is a safari adventure. Besides that, this zoo also hosts wedding ceremonies and provide banquets facility for different celebrations.
There is no charge for parking your vehicle while visiting to the zoo. During summer season, it remains open from 10.00 hrs to 19.00 hrs. In autumn, spring and winter season, the timing is changed.
